Spokane Symphony Maestro Eckart Preu named music director of Portland Orchestra Symphony
SPOKANE, Wash. — Spokane Symphony Orchestra Maestro Eckart Preu, who will soon begin his farewell season with the orchestra, was named music director of the Portland Symphony Orchestra Tuesday.
Preu will join the Maine-based orchestra, beginning with the 2019-20 season.
Preu, one of three finalists selected for the position following an international search, will succeed Maestro Robert Moody, who conducted for ten years with the orchestra.
In a release from the orchestra, Music Director Search Committee Chair Tim Boulette said,
“In Eckart Preu, we found a conductor of extraordinary musicianship who possesses a remarkable ability to inspire and connect with musicians and audiences on and off the podium. He also brings extensive experience advancing orchestras to the next level, and an exciting vision for what the PSO can become.”
Preu will conduct his 15th and final season with the Spokane Symphony for the 2018-2019 season, which begins on September 8 and 9. You can purchase tickets for the season here.
