Spokane Public Library offering music lessons, free of charge
SPOKANE, Wash. — If you’ve always wanted to learn how to play a musical instrument but never did, now’s the time!
The Spokane Public Library is offering free music lessons, and the best part? They’ll provide the instruments.
The lessons will be offered multiple Tuesdays throughout the month of November, during which you can learn to play the drums, guitar, bass, piano… even the ukelele.
“It’s something we’ve been wanting to do for a long time and we already love the public libraries here, and it just felt like we’re already very comfortable here, it felt like an extension of that,” said current student Kali Green.
Right now, the classes are half an hour long and students can sign up as often as they want.
The library says it will soon be offering group lessons as well.
“It was making something out of nothing, which is a little scary at first, but it’s been incredibly rewarding,” said Andy Rumsey, music instructor for the downtown branch.
“It’s incredibly rewarding for me but also have noticed that it is consistently incredibly rewarding for the people coming in here,” Rumsey continued. “I’ve taught people from Brazil, from China, from Puerto Rico and there’s a real humanity that happens here in this room. It’s not just about the music.”
