Car chase starts in Spokane Valley, ends in east central Spokane neighborhood; driver in custody

SPOKANE, Wash. — Spokane County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a situation that unfolded in east central Spokane. Someone led Spokane County deputies on a chase Sunday evening that started in Spokane Valley and eventually crossed into Spokane city lines.

The sheriff’s office told 4 News Now, just before 6:30 p.m., someone reported a suspicious vehicle near Argonne and Montgomery in Spokane Valley. Deputies tried to stop that car, but instead, the driver took off to Spokane’s lower South Hill, near Pacific and Rebecca.

4 News Now was the first news station on scene where the sheriff’s office said deputies took one man into custody.  A spokesperson did not say whether that man is charged with a crime, though. A woman nearby told 4 News Now about the frightening scene that unfolded in her own backyard.

“We knew that he was running from the cops. They go chasing after him and then a couple other cop cars behind him with big old guns. I don’t even know what – I mean, it kind of scared us a little bit. I was telling the kids to stay back because I didn’t know what was going on,” said Nicole Wagner, a nearby resident. “All of a sudden, they came back around and then they had the guy, they’re trying to handcuff him, and he was fighting them and wouldn’t let them put her to the ground.”

Wagner said she was afraid a shooting would break out and her family would be in danger.

Spokane County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident.
