Spokane police find stolen truck with dog inside, arrest suspected thief
SPOKANE, Wash. — A truck with a dog in it was stolen out of the Shadle Safeway parking lot Saturday morning.
The owner of the Ford F-150 said he accidentally left the keys inside with his dog, a fridge, and thousands of dollars worth of tools.
He called 911 around 11:00 a.m. when he saw a thief get into his truck and drive off. The truck’s description was then sent out to all working Spokane police officers. About an hour and a half later, officers spotted the truck about 3.5 miles away, in the 100 block of E. Sinto Ave. The thief was still in the driver’s seat.
Officers contacted the suspect and were able to recover the stolen truck as well as the dog, fridge, and tools. The suspect, who has not yet been identified by police, was booked into the Spokane County Jail for vehicle theft and 2nd degree theft.
In a release, Spokane Police Offier Josh Laiva said, “Please remember to keep your vehicles locked, with all valuables out of sight. … With the warmer weather, we all tend to leave our windows down and vehicles unsecure, but take a few seconds to secure your vehicle which could save you from a loss of property and money.”
