Spokane Police conduct pedestrian emphasis patrols

The Spokane Police Traffic Unit will be conducting Pedestrian Emphasis Patrols Friday, to remind drivers to be aware of their surroundings.

“We want drivers to be watchful for pedestrians as we will be watching for vehicles not yielding to pedestrians,” said Traffic Sergeant John Griffin.

As the weather warms up and schools let out for the summer, police especially want to remind drivers to be aware of their surroundings near playgrounds and parks and in neighborhoods.

For those who are walking and riding as the weather improves, police want to remind you to follow the rules of the road when crossing intersections, stop signs and signals.

“We all need to work together to make our neighborhoods and city a safer place to drive, ride and walk,” added Griffin.
