Spokane Police arrest suspect in hit-and-run crash

SPOKANE, Wash – The Spokane Police officer shot while investigating a drive-by shooting Sunday is a veteran of the force with nearly three decades of experience.

Officer Kris Honaker suffered head and leg injuries in Sunday’s shooting.

He was awake and alert in the hospital Sunday evening and was released from the hospital by Monday afternoon.

Honaker has been with Spokane Police since 1995 and is currently assigned to the patrol division.

He has been a K9 handler and has previously received a life-saving award.

In a news release Monday, Spokane Police said “Officer Honaker and SPD would like to thank the community for the outpouring of support. This is a difficult time for our organization; our friend and colleague was senselessly shot while protecting our community. The public’s reaction has been uplifting to Kris and to the entire department as we move forward together.”

The two men suspected of shooting Honaker face multiple felony charges.

Both have only recently been released from prison on other charges.
