Sager walked on to the Washington Huskies football team in 2009. He primarily played special teams, playing in all 13 games his junior season.
After college, Sager started his competitive CrossFit career after taking 13th in the 2013 North West Regional Competition. He had only been doing CrossFit for four months.
A year later, he won the Northwest regional, and went on to place 17th in his CrossFit games debut.
Today, he trains as a full time CrossFit athlete, and has continued to improve throughout his career. In 2015, he took 7th place in the Crossfit Games, and in 2016 he made it up to 5th place, just two spots shy of the podium.
At the start of the games, Sager is ranked 6th in the world, and 3rd in the United States, so he is a contender to win it all this year.
