Spokane Homeless Connect to feature 3-court warrant fest
SPOKANE, Wash. — The Spokane Homeless Connect announced Wednesday afternoon that for the second year in a row, all three Spokane Courts, Municipal, District, and Superior will facilitate a “Warrant Fest” at this year’s Homeless Connect.
The event will offer the opportunity for anyone with an outstanding warrant to speak with a Public Defender about getting their outstanding warrant recalled or “quashed”, resolving pending charges and/or scheduling new court dates.
According to Spokane Homeless Connect, outstanding and unresolved warrants are often a barrier which prevents the marginalized and homeless from accessing services ranging from housing to employment.
In a press release issued Wednesday, Spokane Superior Court Judge Maryann Moreno said, “”I am not aware of any charges that should be excluded from the ‘Warrant Fest.’ We don’t want to scare anyone away. Our goal is to help them move forward, rather than hiding in the shadows. The Public Defenders at the ‘Warrant Fest’ will be able to meet with people and explain the process. The eventual outcome will depend on many things, but we are here to help and we want everyone with an outstanding warrant to participate. No exclusions.”
The 8th Annual Homeless Connect will take place Wednesday, January 30th, 2019, from 10:00am to 3:00pm at the Salvation Army Community Center.
