Spokane Community College to host Native American Heritage Celebration

SPOKANE, Wash. — Spokane Community College will hold a Native American Heritage Celebration on Tuesday, November 29.

The event will be held at the Lair Student Center, home of the Center of Inclusion and Diversity.

The Center is led by the Native American Student Organization (NASO), whose goal is to bring attention to the Native American culture and create community.

I’m excited to see where this club goes in getting our culture out there. We also want to invite non-Natives in to see what Natives do,” said Kendra Ferguson, vice-president of NASO.

The Center has a meditation room, Zen Garden, Pride Center, and conference rooms accessible to all students. Around 20-40 students use the Center each day.

The Native American Heritage Celebration will feature a Native American dancer and food for attendees to enjoy.

“Any SCC student is more than welcome at the Center,” said Sandra Zamora, the Center’s retention specialist. “It’s just a welcoming environment.”

The celebration is happening from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
