Spokane City Councilman Mike Fagan to run for council president
SPOKANE, Wash. — Spokane City Councilmember Mike Fagan has announced plans to run for the open Spokane City Council President position in November.
Fagan currently represents Spokane District 1, which covers northeast Spokane. His term is coming to an end in 2019.
In a release Tuesday morning, Fagan said, “My focus as your District 1 Council member has been to represent people, families, and businesses in Spokane. I did not go to office to drastically change the face, character, and unique values of our great city.”
As council president, Fagan said he would prioritize city government to “properly maintain infrastructure, while providing essential services, and protecting the rights of ‘all’ Spokane citizens and businesses continues to be the paramount duty of your government.”
Fagan said his goal is to bring the city government “back to it’s basic mission of your quality of life.”
Back in November, local activist and former head of the Spokane NAACP chapter Phil Tyler announced his plans to run for council president. Current councilmember Breean Beggs announced his candidacy in December.
