Sound Off for September 10th: Idaho woman files suit over fireworks ban. Thoughts?
LEWISTON, Idaho (AP) — — A fireworks vendor in northern Idaho has filed a tort claim against seven cities for banning the sale of fireworks over the summer.
Teri Ann Krause alleges she’s lost around $42,000 because of the ban inside the Nez Perce Indian Reservation.
Seven Idaho cities imposed the fireworks sales ban earlier this year because of extremely dry conditions that pre-empted a hectic wildfire season not only in the region, but also across the Northwest.
Krause, a Nez Perce tribal member, argues the bans violated the tribe’s sovereignty. According to the claim, Krause alleges that the cities’ actions resulted in intentional and reckless deprivation of legal business.
City officials had not yet had a chance to respond to the claim as of Tuesday.
