Sound Off for August 10th: What are your thoughts on Target’s gender labeling decision?
Target is changing its ways and changing its signs. The retail giant says it will no longer use signs referring to a specific gender – like girls or boys toys.
In a statement to ABC News, the retailer says its working to “…phase out gender-based signage to help strike a better balance.”
The game-changing conversation kicked off with a mom-of-three, Abi Bechtel, who tweeted a photo from inside her local target store showing a sign for “Building Sets” and a separate sign for “Girls’ Building Sets.” The caption read, “Don’t do this, @Target”.
Target listened and has vowed to revamp all its signage in their toy and entertainment sections. And in toy aisles they will, “… remove reference to gender, including the use of pink, blue, yellow or green paper on the back walls of our shelves.”Target says you’ll see the change over the next few months.
What do you think? Do you support Target’s decision?
