Snowy weather on the way for this weekend

It was a beautiful and sunny day here in the Inland Northwest, but don’t get too used to it. It looks like these warm days will soon be a thing of the past.

Not only is it going to cool down drastically, it looks like many portions of the Inland Northwest may even see snow in the next few days.

“Changes are on the way,” said Rocco Pelatti, Meteorologist at the National Weather Service.

Pelatti is used to seeing the seasons change. However, these changes seem to have caught most people by surprise.

“I wouldn’t have expected it this soon,” said Andrew Borg, Spokane Resident.

“I’m sad to see the summer end,” said Denise Leonard, Spokane Resident.

Regardless of how you may feel about the seasons changing, it’s important to be prepared for what’s ahead.

“At the mountain level we’ll probably see it accumulate. At the pass level it might be problematic. I wouldn’t be surprised to see it in the air down by the river,” said Pelatti.

If you garden and have plants that are sensitive to the cold weather, you might want to take extra precaution.

“We’re trying to get the word out for folks to cover them,” Pelatti said.

As far as landscaping goes, there are things you can do to prevent damage.

“Sometimes sprinkler heads that are exposed could freeze and those could be damaged,” said Pelatti.

However, just because we are going to hit abnormally cold temperatures this week doesn’t mean it’s going to stay that way.

“It’ll be a neutral year, which means right now it’s going to be above normal temperatures,” Pelatti said.
