SNOQUALMIE, Wash. — A snow storm moving from west to east is posing problems for drivers traveling over Washington’s passes on Friday.

Snoqualmie Pass is open in both directions with snow on the roadway. Traction tires are required for drivers and chains are required on vehicles over 10,000 gross vehicle weight. Oversize vehicles are prohibited.

Stevens Pass is a bit trickier. Chains are required on all vehicles except those with all-wheel drive. Oversize vehicles are prohibited.

The Washington State Department of Transportation says snow is falling and both compact snow and ice are on the roadway.

Heavy snow is expected to fall across the Inland Northwest on Friday, with more falling into the weekend. Washington mountains are expected to see even more snow. Drivers are encouraged to take it slow and allow extra time during their travels.
