Silver Mtn. closed Wednesday following deadly avalanche
KELLOGG, Idaho — The main ski area at Silver Mountain Resort will be closed Wednesday after an avalanche that killed two people Tuesday.
Tuesday’s avalanche happened on Wardner Peak, which was closed to skiers at the time.
The avalanche fell around 11:00 a.m.
Search crews and volunteers found five skiers alive in the debris. They were all rescued with minor injuries. Initially, only one person was found dead. That person’s body was recovered from the mountain.
Crews continued searching throughout the day Tuesday. Around 9:00 p.m., it was announced another skier had been found buried in debris. That person was taken to Shoshone Medical Center. Mountain staff later confirmed on Facebook that a second skier had died.
