Shining Star Senior Night: Deer Park’s Root, Odessa’s Hunt

SPOKANE, Wash. — There are so many high school and college athletes that won’t be able to find out how their career might have ended in the last spring sports season. We want to give them recognition on Shining Star Senior Night, every night!

On Wednesday, May 6 we featured Cory Root and Jaden Hunt

Cory Root: This senior has played baseball for more than 12 years in the Deer Park community. His mother Jodi nominated him, and says he’s grown into a great leader that works hard and inspires his teammates. The coaches and friends he’s developed in baseball will stay with him forever. He was ready to step up and take even more of a leadership role in his senior year for the Stags after so many years in the game, his family is sad he won’t get the chance. They know he will go on to do great things with his coach-able attitude and impressive work ethic.

Jaden Hunt: A three-sport athlete that was part of a senior class loaded with talent, one that had the chance to win three state titles in football, basketball and then baseball this Spring. The Tigers finished second last year in baseball, and Hunt was on the football and basketball teams that won state before the baseball season was canceled. Jaden is an All-League and All-State lineman in football, but he’s also pep club president, class president and a state and national placer in Future Business Leaders of America. His nominator says he has a big, caring heart and can make you laugh, even when you may not feel like it.
