Shining Star Senior Night: Coeur d’Alene’s Dodd, Hughes and Mick

SPOKANE, Wash. — Accepting that sports were canceled for the spring because of COVID-19 was tough for athletes, but it might hurt the parents who love watching them just as deeply.

Three seniors at Coeur d’Alene high school all live under one roof, Shannon Dodd’s. They were all also planning on playing a spring sport, so tonight is their Shining Star Senior Night.

Jasmine Hughes: She is an exchange student from Wentzville, Missouri who came to CDA to play for the CDA Hockey Academy. Jasmine is a great leader and it showed when she made captain of the hockey team. For spring, she was training for the track and field team where she would have gone on to help the CDA Vikings in pole vault. She maintained a 3.6 g.p.a. and is heading to Alvernia University in Pennsylvania next year to study Criminal Justice.
Cecelia Mick: Also an exchange student, Cecilia is from Klamath Falls, Oregon. She also returned to CDA this year to play for the CDA Hockey Academy. She made it onto the Varsity softball team where her family watched her play third base for their one and only scrimmage. Cecelia is attending Neumann University in Pennsylvania where she plans to major in Business. Despite all her activities, Cecelia maintained an impressive 3.8 g.p.a. Cecelia turns 18 on April 28.
Tyler Dodd: This is Shannon’s son, who says he is an amazing kid who didn’t mind opening up their home to two more seniors and sharing the house with three teenage girls, as he also has a younger sister. Tyler ran varsity track and field every year at CHS and made it to state. He loved high jump, was a member of the 4 x 100 relay team and also ran the 200m. Tyler was looking forward to his senior year as a team captain on the track team. Tyler also participated in Business Professionals of America where he made it to State, the Scholastics Team, Mathletes, he took many dual enrollment and AP classes, and maintained a 3.5 g.p.a. Tyler is heading to Idaho State University to pursue a degree in Radiology.
