SFD issues reminder that fireworks are illegal
SPOKANE, Wash. — With the 4th of July right around the corner, the Spokane Fire Department has issued a reminder that selling or using consumer fireworks is illegal in Spokane, Spokane Valley, Cheney, Millwood, Liberty Lake, and unincorporated areas of Spokane County.
Possessing fireworks can result in a $526 fine. If you start a fire, you are also responsible for damaged property and fire department costs.
2018 marks the 26th year that consumer fireworks have been illegal. The ban was instated after a large number of fireworks-caused fires occurred between 1983 and 1992. Firefighters responded to an average of 104 fireworks-caused fires in the City of Spokane alone between June 29 and July 6 in the ten years prior to the ban.
You can report violations of the ban to Crime Check at (509) 456-2233.
