Seahawks sign RB Carlos Hyde to 1-year deal worth up to $4 million
SEATTLE, Wash. — It was clear the Seahawks needed another runningback to rely on, with Chris Carson and Rashaad Penny coming off serious injuries and surgeries in 2020.
Would they bring back Beastmode and sign Marshawn Lynch? Would they offer Atlanta Falcons’ free agent Devonta Freeman the number he reportedly wanted?
None of the above. For a deal worth up to $4 million in incentives, they’ll bring in a former rival runningback in Carlos Hyde. He was with the San Francisco 49ers from 2014-2017, but has since spent time with the Cleveland Browns (2018), Jacksonville Jaguars (2018) and 2019 with the Houston Texans.
Last year, he rushed for a career-high 1,070 yards on 245 carries and six touchdowns.
Seattle reportedly offered Freeman the same deal, which he rejected.
By not signing Marshawn Lynch, the former runningback that helped lead them to a Super Bowl XLVII win will likely head back into retirement.
