SCSO: Man stabs friend near Airway Heights, assaults medics trying to help him

SPOKANE, Wash. — A man accused of stabbing his friend and assaulting first responders was arrested near Airway Heights on Saturday.

At around 10:45 p.m., Spokane County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a reported stabbing at 2200 N. Craig Road. Deputies found a stabbed victim inside his home and was provided medical treatment. He was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Deputies say the suspect, 22-year-old Bobby E. Lewis, got into an argument with his friend that quickly turned physical, where Lewis stabbed the victim.

As the victim attempted to flee from Lewis, another man got in Lewis’ way and told him to stop. The man said Lewis threatened to kill him, but then left the house.

Lewis later called 911 and said he had been stabbed. Deputies located him in a field near W. Knox Lane and N Craig Road. Deputies said Lewis did not seem to have any stab wounds but appeared highly intoxicated and having problems breathing.

Medical personnel responded to the scene shortly after. The Sheriff’s Office says Lewis grabbed one of the AMR staff and tackled her to the ground. Deputies stopped Lewis and placed him in handcuffs after a short struggle.

After Lewis was medically cleared, he was booked into Spokane County Jail for first and third-degree assault, along with felony harassment for threats to kill.
