Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital pediatrics unit undergoes major remodel
SPOKANE, Wash. — An expansive renovation to the pediatric unit at Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital is expected to impact thousands of local families.
The remodel is on the third floor general pediatrics unit. That was the first pediatric area to open at the hospital in 2003.
Some upgrades include a common family area, new nursing station, a new nurse call system for each room and portable blood pressure machines, according to a press release.
The renovation was made possible thanks to a $1 million pledge from Inland Northwest Ace Hardware Stores. Much of the money for the remodel comes directly from customers rounding up their purchases at the cash register.
The owners of local Ace Hardware stores have been longtime supporters of the children’s hospital and of Children’s Miracle Network.
“It’s never easy for a child to be in the hospital,” said Dawn Gregg, owner of two Spokane Ace stores. “This renovation will help sick and injured kids, and their families, receive the very best possible care. We are so fortunate to have a world-class children’s hospital in our community and are grateful that our customers so strongly supported this project.”
Providence Health Care Foundation Chief Philanthropy Officer Joyce M. Cameron said the hospital really appreciates this support.
“Their generosity helps Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital continue its legacy of delivering exceptional care at a remarkable facility designed specifically for pediatric patients and their families,” Cameron said.
Ace also supports Children’s Miracle Network through donating holiday lights and extension cords for the 4 News Now Making Spirits Bright Christmas light display at Cowley Park. The company also sponsors the ‘Miracle Monday’ segment that airs once a month on 4 News Now. It features innovative hospital programs and inspiring children that rely on them.
Ace Hardware has helped raise more than $107 million dollars for CMN hospitals across the country since 1991.
The official ribbon cutting and blessing for this remodel is Wednesday morning.
