Roller derby fundraiser for Spokane Humane Society
Roller Derby is one of the toughest sports out there, and one local team is joining up with the Spokane Humane Society to help homeless pets in need.
The “Who Let the Belles Out” bout will feature Inland EmPower’s Brass Belles in their first home game since the founding of their league last year.
“We are a very community-minded league, committed to making Spokane a better place,” said league president Jen Mayernik. “We wanted to have our premier home bout to be something spectacular that also helped a non-profit in the region and we love helping our furry friends in need.”
A portion of the ticket sales for this event will be donated to the Spokane Humane Society to help them continue to care for the thousands of homeless pets they see each year. The bout will also feature a dog parade and fun animal-themed games and trivia for the audience.
The adults aren’t the only ones having fun either. Junior derby team Cherry Bomb Brawlers are also getting in on the action, making this event a double header.
The action is set for this Saturday, October 4. Doors open at 5 pm at the Riverfront Park Pavilion in downtown Spokane.
The Cherry Bomb Brawlers open up with a bout against the Coeur d’Alene Sweet Fangs at 5:30, followed by the Brass Belles taking on Tri-Cities Atomic City Roller Girls at 7. The teams are then hosting an after party at O’Doherty’s Irish Grille afterwards.
Tickets are $7 in advance or $10 at the door and can be purchased from any Inland EmPower or Cherry Bomb skater, or at the Spokane Humane Society. The $7 advance price can also be had at the door with a donation of pet food for the Spokane Humane Society.
