SPOKANE, Wash. — The Gonzaga men’s basketball team has hired former Director of Basketball Operations Stephen Gentry as a new assistant coach, according to several reports.

He has most recently served as an assistant coach at Illinois, but is not new to the Gonzaga basketball universe.

Gentry, a former walk-on who played four seasons for Coach Few, previously served as Director of Operations for the team from 2017 until 2020.

He also served as Player Development Director at Oklahoma State, assistant coach at Stephen F. Austin University and Director of Basketball Operations at Texas A&M.

In a message posted to his Twitter, Gentry thanked Illinois for a “tremendous two years.” During his time there, Gentry helped lead the team to two NCAA Tournament berths, a NCAA #1 seed and a Big 10 Tournament championship.

Gentry will replace former assistant coach Tommy Lloyd, who left the Zags earlier this year for a head coaching job at Arizona.
