OLYMPIA, Wash. — Eastern Washington Rep. Matt Shea has been fined $4,761 by the state for pouring olive oil down the steps of the Capitol.

4 News Now reached out to the Department of Enterprise Services, who said Matt Shea intentionally poured olive oil on the steps of the Legislative Building during a counter-protest on March 9.

The cost covers damages to the historic masonry of the building, says the DES, which comprises of sandstone and marble.

According to the Seattle Times, this olive oil incident was part of an apparent counter-protest to a Satanist demonstration. They note that, unlike Shea’s group, the Satanists had applied for and received a permit to assemble.
