NEWPORT, Wash. — Remains of a Newport man, missing for more than two years, have been found near Metaline Falls.

The Pend Oreille County Sheriff’s Office said forestry workers reported finding the human remains in a wooded area near Boundary Road.

A criminal investigation was launched and confirmed the remains were those of Marty Lang.

Lang was last seen in July 2017 at his home near Scotia Road. Shortly after, Lang’s son Thomas spoke with 4 News Now, saying his father “vanished into thin air.”

“At&T says his phone’s been turned off. Nobody’s seen him. Looks like he came home, put the gate up and didn’t even get the chance to put his cooler or lunchbox inside,” Thomas told 4 News Now.

The Sheriff’s Office said the circumstances surrounding Lang’s disappearance are considered suspicious and the case remains active.

Anyone with information about his disappearance or death is encouraged to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 509-447-1980.
