Rathdrum family involved in deadly head-on collision near La Pine
LA PINE, Oregon — Two people were killed, and three people were injured, including a family of four from Rathdrum, Idaho, in a head-on collision on Highway 97 south of La Pine, Oregon Sunday night.
Authorities responding to the scene found that a northbound 1991 Lexus, driven by Alan Eutsler, 29, of Bend, was speeding and crossed the centerline, striking a southbound 2016 Ford Fusion head-on.
Eutsler was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the southbound vehicle, Don Adams, 45, of Rathdrum, and his wife Barbara, suffered life-threatening injuries and were flown by air ambulance to St. Charles Bend where they are being treated in the intensive care unit.
Adams’ 10-year-old daughter was killed in the crash, while his eight-year-old son suffered minor injuries and was also taken to St. Charles Bend for treatment of his injuries.
Oregon State Police shut down Highway 97 for four hours during the crash investigation. The preliminary cause of the crash has been determined to be speeding and unlawful passing by Eutsler.
The crash investigation is ongoing.
