Rain not stopping Hoopfest preparations

Rain on Tuesday did not stop crews from setting up center court for Hoopfest in downtown Spokane.

The court will be the area where event finalists will compete for the title of Best in the Nation. KXLY4 production crews were out early Tuesday morning to set the main stage up that will overlook the court. Crews set up scaffolding and tents, but later in the week they will also be setting up TVs and news desks and laying down cables and wires when the weather clears up.

Crew members said they were determined to get some of the setup started despite the hard conditions.

“The amount that needs to be put up I guess. There’s a lot to do and the rain makes it difficult,” said crew member Darin Harder.

The most experienced crew members said they couldn’t remember getting rained on since KXLY4 started covering the event in 2003. However, forecasters predict the conditions will clear up in time for the event.
