An 11-year-old boy was killed and a one-year-old baby was seriously injured in a head-on collision near Royal City Wednesday.

The Grant County Sheriff’s Office reports the collision happened around 2;45 a.m. in the 5500 block of Adams Road South. Abigail Leyva, 18, of Quincy was driving northbound when she failed to make a turn and drove into the oncoming southbound lane, where her Honda Accord collided with a Chevy S-10 pickup truck.

Josue Leyva Amenta, 11, a passenger in the Accord, was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision.

A one-year-old child in the Accord was transported by LifeFlight to Kadlec Medical Center in Richland and then flown later to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. He is listed in stable conditions with head injuries.

Abigail Leyva and the pickup driver, 59-year-old Fausto Hernandez Vargas of Othello, received minor injuries and were transported to the hospital.
