Put the Happy Back In Your Holidays: Trade or sell unwanted gift cards

Every year, millions of Americans get the gift of choice under the tree, all in the form of gift cards to their favorite stores. But, what about the cards you don’t want and will never use? There’s a way to get value out of those, too.

There are many websites and apps that allow you to trade and sell unwanted gift cards. How much you get and in which form depends on which site you use and how valuable the card is to other people.

Here are just a few sites where you can trade in those unwanted gift cards.

GiftCardGranny: GiftCardGranny is a good clearinghouse of cards with offers curated from other sites. You can sell your unwanted gift card and you can buy discounted gift cards as well. How much you get – or spend – depends on how in-demand the card you’re buying or selling might be. For example, we found a $100 Best Buy gift card on sale for $92.50. We also offered a $50.00 Starbucks gift card and it would sell for about $37.00.

Cardpool says it guarantees you’ll get up to 92% of full value for your card. We were offered either $40.02 for instant payment or the possibility of more money if we put our card on the marketplace. The site pays either through a check in the mail or an Amazon gift card. The site has a lot of cards for sale as well. We found an abundance of iTunes gift cards for around 10% off their full value price.

Cardcash also offers up to 92% cash back or trade for your card. If you trade, you can earn even more. We entered a $25.00 Bed Bath and Beyond card and were offered $20.72 cash OR the option to trade to multiple other retailers for about two dollars more.

There are many more sites out there that offer a trade or cash for your cards. Any amount is better than letting that gift card sit unused forever in the bottom of your kitchen junk drawer.
