Put the Happy Back in your Holidays: Helpful hacks for taking down Christmas decorations
SPOKANE, Wash. — If you’ve been trying to soak up every last ounce of Christmas and have been saving the task of taking down decorations until the very last minute these tips will save you both time and money in the process and help you get organized for next year!
When it comes to taking the ornaments off the tree, instead of spending money on bubble wrap, tissue paper and ornament storage bins, grab an empty egg carton and fill it up with your favorites. If the ornaments are too big, grab one of the boxes you are probably looking to dispose of that carried all those gifts from far and re-purpose it! Fill it with plastic cups and place at least one ornament in each.
Next off the tree comes the lights. Before packing them back up, test out each strand to make sure they are still working. Replace bulbs or throw broken ones out. To avoid the hassle of de-tangling them next year, grab a piece of cardboard and wrap them around it.
When you’ve gathered all of your decorations, take inventory as you pack them away. Leave a note on top of each box with the contents so you will have an idea of what you are unpacking when it’s time to decorate again come December.
If you have amassed a lot of wrapping paper, bows, ribbons and gift boxes, put it all in an empty garment bag and hang it in your closet or close to your Christmas decorations.
