Sara Tiegs, a manager at the Subway on Main Street in Pullman, is the fastest sandwich artist in the world. She was named champion at the 2017 Subway Sub Jammer Competition.

Tiegs competed against an elite group of 49 sandwich artists from seven countries.

Subway Sub Jammers are judged on speed, accuracy and sandwich appearance. The contestants compete by making and bagging the brand’s most popular sandwich — the footlong Turkey Breast with cheese and fresh vegetables.

“After competing in nine competitions, it is rewarding to have finally won,” said Tiegs, who’s been with Subway for 16 years. “I could not have done it without the support of the franchise owners Cam and Jo Brinkman, my amazing staff and the Pullman community.”

Tiegs took home the championship trophy and a money prize of $3,000 with a winning time of 44.1 seconds.

In 2015, Tiegs placed fifth. Last year, she finished in 12th place.

“Our sandwich artists are the most hard working, committed people in our business, and this description fits Sara perfectly,” said Cam Brinkman. “Sara is the best! She has always gone above and beyond with our customers and has been dedicated to providing clean, friendly, and efficient service. It is great that she was able to prove she is one of the best in the world.”

Tiegs grew up in Rigby, Idaho, and attended the University of Idaho in Moscow. She now lives and works in Pullman.
