Preparations for Bloomsday check in, trade show underway
SPOKANE, Wash. —
Its been a busy Thursday for organizers of the Bloomsday check-in and trade show at the Spokane Convention Center, they began setting up at around 5 a.m. and were going strong through the day.
“We’ve had a lot of our volunteers and our decorators coming in and getting it ready for thousands and thousands of people,” said Mark Starr, a member of the Bloomsday Board of Directors.
He says over the next two days, over 40,000 people will cycle through and they are prepared to handle the masses.
“We will have about 600 volunteers here over the next two days,” he said.
He says everyone will enter through the front of the convention center and then cycle through to get their packets, organized by age and gender. Then you must get your chips checked in. They are embedded in the number tags.
“The trade show is free and open to the public,” he said.
Around 200 booths will be set-up with deals on a variety of items like running gear.
The trade show will be open Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
“If you are hoping to avoid crowds, the best time to come would be Monday,” he said.
He says, earlier hours on Friday are typically quite busy, and the best time to come is between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. and then again after 6 p.m. to avoid the crowds.
On Saturday he says, its usually a constant stream of folks.
If you are looking to register late, they have a new option this year which may save you time.
“We will have late registration not only the old fashioned way with pen and paper, but you can also do online late registration,” he said.
As for parking, he advises taking STA if possible and that if you are going to drive, be prepared for a bit of a walk.
“Riverfront park is opening their north entrance today or tomorrow I believe,” Starr said, “of course the arena parking lot is also a popular place to be.”
