Portion of Highway 27 still closed
SPOKANE, Wash. — A portion of Highway 27 remained closed Monday afternoon due to high winds and drifting snow.
Washington Department of Transportation crews worked through the weekend to try an open the section of highway near Tekoa.
Officials said the snow was drifting faster than crews could clear it. In some places the snowbanks were estimated to be 12 to 13 feet high.
The drifting snow created unsafe conditions with several truck getting stuck.
Equipment and crews from other areas have been brought in to help but there is still no estimate for when the road will reopen.
