Coeur d’Alene Police are still looking for a suspicious man who may have tried to lure an 11-year-old boy into a van Wednesday afternoon.

Police responded to Landings Park around 4:35 p.m. after they received reports of a suspicious man in the area. Police report the child was walking home from the bus when a green cargo van stopped near him and a man got out and said something like, “Come here. I have something for you.” That’s when the child ran away.

Coeur d’Alene Police Detective Jared Reneau said that kid’s decision to run away was the right move. This is a lesson for parents to talk to their kids about dangers like this.

“I don’t want to assume what would have happened. I think we can all draw assumptions about what could have happened, but I think when kids have the tools to react in situations like that..it contributes greatly to their safety,” Reneau said.

The suspicious man is described as a white man, about 5’8″ tall with brown hair, a brown mustache and chin hair. He was in a light green van with tinted windows. Police don’t have a license plate number but believe it was an Idaho wildlife bluebird plate. Call 208-769-2320.
