Pilot, passenger walk away from Elk River airstrip crash
OROFINO, Idaho — Two local men emerged unscathed from an airplane crash at the Elk River airstrip in Clearwater County late Wednesday morning.
The Clearwater County Sheriff’s Office reports that pilot John Hartnett, 67, of Spokane and passenger Brian Scott, 66, of Sagle, Idaho were flying down to Moose Creek airstrip for a fishing trip and had touched down at Elk River.
Hartnett told authorities he was practicing a soft field take off when his aircraft, a Cessna 182, stalled and hit the ground.
Both men were strapped in and were uninjured in the mishap.
The plane will be removed from the field Thursday.
The FAA and NTSB have been contacted about the incident.
