Phoenix and Riverhawks: Spokane Public Schools Board approves mascots for new middle schools

SPOKANE, Wash. – Spokane Public Schools’ two new middle schools officially have mascots.
The school board voted Wednesday night to approve Pauline Flett Middle School’s mascot as the Riverhawks and the Phoenix for Denny Yasuhara Middle School.
The two new middle schools will open this fall and welcome sixth and seventh graders. The district decided to leave incoming eighth-graders at their respective schools so they don’t switch in the middle of their middle school experience.
District staff and its respective principals worked with students to choose a mascot.
