Penny Marshall dies
The entertainment website TMZ is reporting that director and actress Penny Marshall has died.
Marshall, who was Laverne in the TV sitcom “Laverne & Shirley” was 75. She went on to become one of the top-grossing female directors in Hollywood.
TMZ says her publicist says she died from complications of diabetes.
As a filmmaker, she became the first woman to direct a film that made more than $100 million with “Big,” the 1988 comedy starring Tom Hanks.
She also directed “A League of Their Own,” “Jumpin’ Jack Flash” and “Awakenings.”
