Peacock walks into liquor store, leaves $500 in damage

A female peacock walked into the open door of a Los Angeles-area liquor store on Monday. The peahen was captured and released unharmed but not before the bird did some damage, The Associated Press reported.

Royal Oaks Liquore Store manager Rani Ghanem tried to shoo the bird away. The bird got spooked, which then spooked Ghanem.

He called 911, and an animal control officer responded.

“He was trying to get it with the fishing net, and (the bird) jumped on the first wine bottle,” Ghanem told the AP.
“When that happened, I was like, ‘Aw, this is about to be a big mess.’

“He tried to get it again with the net,” Ghanem continued. “It just went straight diving into all the bottles. The more he kept on trying to use the net, the more it kept on flapping its wings and knocking everything over.”

Ghanem recorded some of the incident on his phone but soon jumped in to help the officer. They were able to take the peahen outside.

The peahen broke $500 worth of top-shelf liquor.

“Yeah, he’s got expensive taste,” Ghanem joked in the store on Tuesday. “I’m like, ‘You break, you buy, dude.’ But clearly, he didn’t. He got away with it.”
