Schweitzer Mountain Resort broke ground on a new boutique hotel set to open in the fall of 2020.

SANDPOINT, Idaho — Schweitzer Mountain Resort’s new hotel will no longer open this fall.

“We have taken a realistic look at the construction schedule and due to the current pandemic, early snow last fall, availability of crews and materials, plus other extenuating circumstances, we have made the decision to delay the projected opening date to Fall of 2021,” CEO Tom Chasse said in an email newsletter.

Chasse said the goal for this summer is to complete the “podium deck,” complete the underground garage connection to the existing Selkirk garage and make progress on the new upper arrival area.

The project will then be paused for the 2021 winter season, with vertical construction beginning again in April and early May of 2021.

Schweitzer was forced to end their ski season early this year because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
