Spokane Valley Firefighters rescued a stuck owl late Sunday night.

Fire Engine 7 had fought several structure fires, and were back at the station cleaning their equipment. Their doorbell rang around 1 a.m., and it was a person looking for help freeing a stuck owl.

The owl had chased a rabbit and gotten stuck in the window well of the person’s home.

The person explained that at that time of night, all animal assistance hotlines were going to voicemail, and they had been unable to get the critter free. They were out of options, so the fire crew offered to take a look and see if they could help.

Using a heavy bunker jacket to cover the owl, a firefighter was able to get the bird out, which appeared unharmed as it flew off.
