Oregon Blanks Gonzaga Baseball Again

Zags Renew Rivalry With UW

The Gonzaga University baseball team dropped its final non-conference game of the regular season to the University of Oregon, 9-0 Wednesday.

Oregon (28-24-1) starting pitcher Alex Keudell (6-3) held the Bulldogs to seven hits. Eric Lane and Billy Moon each picked up two hits while Marco Gonzales, Clayton Eslick and Payden Cawley Lamb registered one for the Bulldogs (29-16-1).

Aaron Brooks (0-1), who made his first career start on the hill, surrendered five runs on eight hits in five innings. Ryan Leahy, Karl Myers and Cody Martin each allowed one run.

The Ducks got on board in the first inning. Brooks issued a leadoff single to start the first followed by a sacrifice bunt and a walk. Following a stolen base, the Ducks drove in a pair of runs on a ground out and a single to right field.

Oregon started putting the game out of reach by adding two runs in the third, one in the fifth, two in the seventh and one in the eighth.

The Bulldogs had an opportunity to score in the eighth when Gonzales hit a one-out double to right field. Following a fly out to center field, Cawley Lamb singled to left field to put runners at the corners but Halcomb’s ground out to the third baseman ended the inning.

With the non-conference slate complete, the Bulldogs will play the six remaining games of the regular-season in West Coast Conference play starting at Pepperdine University in a three-game series. The series begins Friday at 3 p.m. followed by 1 p.m. starts Saturday and Sunday.
