On the issues: Homelessness a common concern for mayoral candidates, community members
SPOKANE, Wash. — As the list of candidates for Spokane’s mayoral race grows, the focus on homelessness grows.
Each candidate that has shared their platform includes a desire to find solutions for homelessness or plans to address a shortage of homeless housing.
The other two most commonly reoccurring issues among candidate platforms were public safety and economic diversity.
On a Facebook poll, 53% of voters said homelessness was their major concern. 27% chose public safety/crime and 13% selected economic diversity or growth.
7% selected other issues, mentioning roads/potholes or other traffic issues as their primary concerns.
A Twitter poll also put homelessness ahead of the other common issues for candidates, with 35% of the vote.
