Olympia criminal hotspot: the library

One of the places frequently calling the police for help in Olympia is the library.

There were 78 calls from the library in 2010, 175 last year and 149 through the first half of this year.

The Olympian reports the Olympia Timberland Library is considered a hub for the homeless. Common calls include trespassing, suspicious behavior, drugs and disturbances.

One employee, Kristin West, says crime drove her to quit in June. She says library employees clean up needles and blood in the bathrooms and routinely see patrons who are drunk or watching pornography on library computers.
