Officer involved shooting in Lewiston leaves one suspect dead
LEWISTON, Idaho — An officer involved shooting in Lewiston resulted in the death of a suspect on Wednesday afternoon, according to a City of Lewiston spokesperson.
The city says the incident involved three Lewiston Police officers, who are uninjured. Idaho State Police has now taken over the investigation.
The city says its Critical Incident Task Force, which includes Lewiston Police, ISP, the Latah County Sheriff and Moscow Police, was called for the initial response.
The city says the incident took place in multiple locations, including the 3500 block of 11th St. and the 1300 block of Burrell Ave.
Also on Wednesday, the Daily Fly, a Lewiston-based news organization, confirmed through a Nez Perce Tribal spokesperson a Tribal Police Officer had been shot.
The Daily Fly reports, Officer Josh Rigney, was off duty when he was shot twice by a man who came to his residence on 11th Street in Lewiston Orchards.
The city wouldn’t comment on if the shooting of that tribal officer and the officer involved shooting were connected.
The Nez Perce Tribe confirmed in a Facebook post Wednesday night that Rigney is in stable condition at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center.
The Lewiston Police Department is currently asking the public to refrain from traveling along the 3500 block of 11th Street and the 1300 block of Burrell Avenue, as it is an active crime scene.
This is a developing story, check back for updates.
