Bob Dawson of Ione, WA. passed away at his home on February 13, 2018. Born in Mankato, Minnesota on June 27th, 1934, Bob grew up in Tiger, WA, eventually moving to Ione. On January 17, 1954 he married Janis Hambrook. They just recently celebrated 64 years of marriage.
Bob and family moved to Valdez, AK in 1969, staying 10 years before moving back to Ione.
Bob was a real jack of all trades, but most of his career was logging and construction. 20 years ago he lost his leg in a logging accident and he did not let that slow him down. He loved operating equipment. He was still logging a piece of property this past summer with his backhoe.
Bob loved people and for all he did and was, this was where he really shined. He would help anyone in need. He always had time to assist in any way. There was not a selfish bone in his body. The most distinguishing features of his personal nature was his sense and humor and his honesty. Bob did not know what taking a day off meant. He did not believe in retirement. He left an exemplary work ethic for his children and grandchildren to follow, and he always let them know if they were not working hard enough.
Bob is survived by his wife Janis of 64 years, daughter Debbie Gilson and husband Ron, daughter Cindy Edwards and husband Jay, son Dennis Dawson, daughter Jody Zimmerman and husband Dick, son Danny Dawson and wife Kari, and daughter Kelly Winn and husband Jene.
Also surviving him is his sister, Kay Saxe, sister-in-laws Bonita Hambrook, Carol Swanger, and Joan Dawson, along with 15 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
He was proceeded in death by his brother Dale Dawson, brother-in-laws Glen Saxe, Jim Swanger and Vernon Bell, sister-in-law Donna Bell, nephews Buddy Bell and Rick Bell.
There will be a graveside service at the Ione Cemetery on Sunday, February 25th at noon, followed by a reception at the American Legion Hall in Metaline Falls, WA.
