No injuries after electrical fire on Sprague
SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — Spokane Valley firefighters knocked down an electrical fire at Independent Auto Sales on E. Sprague Tuesday afternoon.
No injuries were reported during the fire.
Firefighters observed smoke coming from the one-story building around 1:15 p.m. and upgraded the incident to a working fire, allowing the department to bring in more resources to the scene.
Due to safety concerns, firefighters waited for Avista to shut off power to the building before they completed their overhaul of the interior walls, insulation, ceiling and roof to make sure the fire was completely out.
Four employees were inside the building when the fire started. The store’s owner heard popping and the electrical panel on the wall caught fire, prompting him to call 911. A fire extinguisher was used to keep the fire from spreading to the interior of the auto bays.
14 apparatus, command, and support vehicles responded to the scene, including Spokane Fire Department crews and the Spokane County Sheriff’s Department for traffic control.
Damage to the building is estimated to be more than $33,000.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
