Water Crisis: Inmates given bottled water

AIRWAY HEIGHTS, Wash. - The Washington Department of Corrections is providing bottled water to inmates and staff until the water supply is deemed safe to drink.

2,167 inmates are currently incarcerated at the Airway Heights Corrections Center; 600 staff work at the prison.

DOC had brought in 40,000 bottles of water as of Wednesday morning. They'll continue to provide bottled water until the city flushes its system, then the prison will flush its system as well.

Because the water is also not considered safe to cook with, the inmates are being provided with food that does not require cooking.

DOC says its working with emergency management partners at the state and local level and that the partnerships have been working smoothly.
