LAKE CHELAN, Wash. - UPDATE: A body believed to be that of 23-year-old Donghoon Lee of Seattle was recovered from Lake Chelan.
A boater reported seeing a body and called 911. The body has been turned over to the Chelan County Coroner's Office.
On Tuesday afternoon at around 3:30, Chelan County Marine Deputies responded to calls of a possible drowning on Lake Chelan.
Upon further investigation it was learned that a group had rented a boat and were swimming off the back towards the middle of the lake.
While swimming, 23-year-old Donghoon Lee started experiencing difficulties.
Others from the group attempted to throw him a life jacket, but were unsuccessful before he sank beneath the surface.
The group made an effort to find him, but could not.
The Chelan County Sheriff's Office and rescue swimmers from Chelan Fire responded with multiple boats.
However, crews were also unsuccessful in finding Lee.
Donghoon was on a break from attending University of Washington.
Rescue workers continued to work into the evening but were unsuccessful in locating Donghoon who is presumed to have drowned.
Search and recovery efforts are scheduled to continue on Wednesday.
The Chelan County Sheriff’s Office would like to use this as a reminder to stay educated on water safety in order for everyone to have a safe and healthy summer while visiting Chelan County.
