Sex offender pleads not guilty to raping 12-year-old girl in Kennewick

KENNEWICK, Wash. - A convicted sex offender has pleaded not guilty to raping a 12-year-old girl in Kennewick last month.

Last week, Skylar Nelson was arrested after police say he carried the girl into a bathroom and forced her to perform oral sex on him at an apartment on Clearwater Ave.

In court today, Nelson pleaded not guilty to second-degree rape of a child. A judge prohibited him from having contact with the victim or going near her school.

Nelson was previously convicted of second-degree rape as a juvenile in 2014. He has a level 3 sex offender status because he poses a high-risk to the community. He was booked into jail last week for failing to register and pleaded not guilty to that crime as well.

His trial for the alleged sexual assault is set to start on Oct. 31.
