Pedestrian killed in downtown Spokane after being backed over

SPOKANE, Wash. - One man is dead after being backed over by a car in downtown Spokane Saturday morning.

At 10:45 a.m., Spokane Police and Spokane Fire responded to the report of an auto pedestrian crash in the 160 block of S. Howard St. downtown. A car backed over a man who was pinned underneath the car. Upon arrival of the police and fire departments, the victim was removed from under the vehicle and taken to a nearby hospital where he died of his injuries.

The roadway will be closed for several more hours as Major Crimes Unit and Crash Investigators conduct their investigation. Police do not think impairment was a factor in the crash.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

The identity of the victim and the cause of the death will be released at a later time by the Spokane Medical Examiner's Office.
